EPP Agriculture Ministers met today in Brussels to prepare for the upcoming Agriculture and Fisheries Council. The co-chairs Sari ESSAYAH, Finnish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, and Konstantinos TSIARAS, Greek Minister of Agricultural Development and Food warmly welcomed Martin HEYDON, the new Minister for Agriculture Food and the Marine of Ireland.   Christophe HANSEN, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, introduced the new roadmap "EU Vision for Agriculture and Food" which was well received by all Ministers as it reflects the 10 key EPP priorities for the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) entitled "Navigating for the CAP 2027 and beyond", which was presented to the European Commission at the end of 2024.   The ministers then exchanged views on the primary challenges their member states are facing and emphasized the need to ensure food security, to continue simplifying the already existing rules as well as reduce the administrative burden for farmers, to promptly encourage generational renewal and evaluate the needs and challenges in rural areas.   Finally, the ministers stressed the strategic role of agriculture as part of overall security. They added that sufficient funding under the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) is crucial to fulfil the commitments made to farmers and reaffirmed that the EPP would take all necessary actions to ensure the enhanced competitiveness of the European agricultural sector, particularly in light of the EU-Mercosur agreement and potential future enlargement.
